Court upholds ‘In God We Trust’ plates

November 19th, 2008 by Jarrett Horne

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Court of Appeals upheld the constitutionality of the state’s “In God We Trust” license plate today, rejecting a claim that people who buy the plates should have to pay a $15 administrative fee charged for other specialty plates.

In its 12-page ruling, the appeals court found that state lawmakers acted correctly in creating a license plate classification system that exempts people who buy the “In God We Trust” plate from paying the administrative fee.

Plate Huge Success

February 11th, 2008 by Jarrett Horne

Main-1-Media was asked by Rep. Woody Burton and Joel Silverman, the then Director of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, to design several options of plates with the inscription of “In God We Trust”. This was the result of legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly authored by Rep. Woody Burton of Greenwood and Senate sponsored by Sen. Brent Steel of Bedford.

Main-1-Media designed approximately 25 or 30 potential designs that were eventually narrowed down to 4 plates.  2 with the Indiana Torch & Stars logo and 2 with more of an American Flag resembling the final design.  These 4 options were then placed on an online poll hosted by Main-1-Media where nearly 500,000 Hoosiers voted over the course of 3 weeks.  There was overwhelming 2 to 1 ratio of votes for the Americana version of the plate versus the Indiana theme.

The plates were then put into production by a company contracted by the DMV.

Since that date nearly 2 million cars in Indiana now carry the “In God We Trust” plate out of the nearly 4 million cars registered in Indiana.

Main-1-Media was proud to donate this service and received a proclamation from the Indiana General Assembly for its voluntary efforts.
